Finance Focus: Is innovation going mainstream or just for Shoreditch Fintech Geeks?
With the flood of funds into fintech – not least around the silicon roundabout – innovative startups are all around – a stone’s throw from the stalwart brands in the City. But are new offerings just too innovative for the mass market? And does slow mass uptake mean that the big brands never need to innovate at any speed? Or does freedom from legacy infrastructure, growing (and enforced) interoperability spawn innovation that will overcome customer inertia and go mainstream. Will the startups take over? Or big brands innovate faster? Or will there be a new ecosystem of the two?
