Keynote address by Charles Bowman, Senior Partner in PwC, having joined Price Waterhouse in 1983, qualified in 1986 and been admitted to partnership in 1995.

Areas of specialization includes the delivery of audit, assurance and capital market transaction services to larger listed and multi-national companies – and acted as Lead Partner and Global Relationship Partner for a number of our firm’s FTSE 100 and other key clients. During his career he spent time on secondment to our offices in Spain and since then have worked in many countries internationally. Chairman of the Audit and Assurance Faculty of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales (ICAEW), and a member of its governing body.Continued as Chairman of the Audit Quality Forum, am a member of the Advisory Council of the Prince of Wales’s Accounting for Sustainability Project.

Chris Pond, Former MP and Chair of Financial Inclusion Committee, Former Head of Public Affairs of Kreab, leading global PR agency. Served as an MP for 8 years, 5 in government as Minister for Work and Pensions, before joining the board of the Financial Services Authority. Previously CEO of 2 charities and chaired a public body on behalf of the Home Office and Cabinet Office. Served as advisor to HM’s Revenue and Customs and the European Commission. Published and broadcast extensively.

Tomás Carruthers, is Chief Executive of the Social Stock Exchange (SSX) and a Trustee of the National Employment Savings Trust (NEST). He was educated in Northumberland, Edinburgh and at Cambridge, where he launched in 1994 with friends the first website in the world to publish real-time share prices. As an innovator and entrepreneur he has developed his career doing fintech before the word was invented, through founding and running Electronic Share Information, Interactive Markets, Interactive Investor and now the Social Stock Exchange.

The Social Stock Exchange is a new and unique public market for social impact investment in which the impact of the business for all stakeholders is precisely as important as its financial performance. Tomás is convinced that a liquid public market is necessary for social impact investing to become a mainstream activity – a message that continues to resonate with investors across the globe, from SOCAP in California to TEDx in Liverpool and beyond.

Alison Cottrell, CEO of the Banking Standards Board, a membership body open to all banks and building societies operating in the UK, and launched in April 2015 to help raise standards of behaviour and competence across the UK banking sector.

Alison began her career in the City of London as an economist covering international fixed income and currency markets. She joined HM Treasury in 2001, becoming Director of Financial Services in 2009 with responsibility for a wide range of policy areas including bank lending, payments, competition and pensions guidance. She combined this role for the three years to 2014 with that of Director of Corporate Services, focusing in particular on staff development, engagement and culture.

Antony Elliott OBE, FCIB is chief executive of The Fairbanking Foundation. He spent over ten years as Group Risk Director of a major retail bank having worked for a number of UK and international banks previously.

He has been actively involved in researching the field of financial well-being since 2004 and has a large number of published reports in the area. His research includes the Centre for the Study of Financial Innovation report, “Fair banking – the road to redemption for UK banks” (2009), subsequently published as “Financial well-being components” in Social Indicators Research (2013) and he was lead author for the Money Advice Service report, “Transforming Financial Behaviour” (2010), examining the role of behavioural economics in improving financial capability.

He founded the Fairbanking Foundation in 2008, which conducts research, provides advice and is the certification body for the Fairbanking Mark.

Antony has a degree in Banking and International Finance from City University and a master’s degree in Operational Research from Imperial College, London. In 2014 he was awarded an OBE for services to bank customers.
